You Are Not What You’re Going Through

Purple Heart photo by D Sharon Pruitt

Whatever you’re facing today, it’s not your identity. Don’t let the enemy tell you otherwise.

You may be in a place of depression. But that is not who you are. You are a beloved daughter.

You may be in a place of weariness. But that is not who you are. You are a mighty warrior.

You may be in a place of loneliness. But that is not who you are. You are a woman who belongs.

How do you need to fill in that blank today?

I may be in a place of ______________. But that is not who I am. I am ______________.

Take a moment to take hold of the truth your heart needs.

Our problems refine us but they don’t define us.

Good Morning Holley. I just read your e-mail and wanted to thank you for always sharing what I need the most. I am going through a very defeating time and have felt like I am totally defeated and am ready to give up the fight. Your article today is so uplifting and was so needed. Thanks to your encouragement, I may feel defeated, but according to God’s Word, I am “More than a conquerer” through Him. Thank you for sharing your gifts and for being such a beautiful blessing. I appreciate you more than I can say. Have a wonderful weekend. God Bless you, Holley.

I may be in a place of transition.
But that is not who I am.
I am Already Seated with in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.
This is how our FATHER sees us. Already there, cause he be the maker of the beginning and the end.

    • Cindy says

Wow, Sonya! This is very good! We can all stand to remember that we are seated with Christ in the heavenly. Praise God for you and for the truth you have shared!!

  3. Mónica Aldana says

Hi Holley, I love to read the thoughts that God grows in your mind and in your heart to share with us, your readers, every day. And I can joyfully affirm that I always find a message for me in your words. Just as if your posts were letters directly addressed from the Lord (through you) to me. Your words are supported with His Word, and that makes them more powerful. This one is not the exception. I really love the thought of being refined -and not defined- by any situation I may face in life. God works us from rough stones to help us become sparkling diamonds through refining, through discarding all what uselessly takes our grace, our sanctity and our shine. May God continue blessing you and your word Ministry!

Oh how I love reading Holley Gerth! Book, blog, card, anything – Holley, you just simplify without minimizing importance of whatever the matter, giving easy to apply and uplifting GODLY words to encourage. You must be an amazing life coach! Today, I am a mighty warrior! I may be in a place of weariness, limbo, brokenness, but I am not these things! I am a mighty warrior, a Godly woman of purpose, an artistic masterpiece being completed by the Master himself! AMEN! Amazing – I already feel the “good chemicals” flooding my brain and my spirit quickening within my soul. I’m ready now, for a GOOD day :)

Oh Holley! What words. I’m claiming them today, and sharing this with others… we ARE NOT what we are in the middle of!! I’m going to repeat my blanks filled in statement until this house is unpacked and settled… and remember that it doesn’t mean that I am “unpacked and unsettled” in the mean while… I can be all HE desires me to be in the midst of this chaos…
    Love your heart!!

I have been rejected, ignored, disgraced and disowned but I know my Lord and Savior loves me and I know that I am not guilty of things people are saying about me. I have faith that God has brought me to the place and that he will bring me through this place. He is the Great I AM and I believe completely. Keep the faith!
God bless and thank you for your words of wisdom.

Thank you dear Holley for printing just what I needed to hear today. God speaks to many of us through you. You’re always a blessing.

  13. Suzanne says

I am a bit sad and feel somewhat defeated today, but these emotions do not define me. I am a beloved child of God. I am someone who has been saved from my sins and made right with my Heavenly Father solely by the death and resurrection of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has done it all. I am the recipient of unbelievable grace, mercy and forgiveness. My hurts will go away. His love and grace never will.
Thank you for this lovely post, Holley.

    • Cindy says

Suzanne, it so so good to be reminded of our salvation and that is afforded in it through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Thank you for sharing and reminding us of these precious truths. God bless you richly!

This is a beautiful post! I read it earlier in the day & it has been running through my thoughts off & on during the afternoon. And this is what just hit me…. we should not let our problems confine us either. At times, we can just let them box us in or get us stuck. May we remember that the circumstances we are facing today will not be with us forever. We are passing through. This post brought such hope today. Thank you!

    • Cindy says

Wonderful, Joanne! This is so true. Thank you for reminding us of this. Jesus is with us forever and walks with us, hand-in-hand, step-by-step, every day! God bless you richly!

Holley, I am feeling a bit weary and anxious but I am a powerful warrior, a daughter of the One True King, God! Seeking rest and strength in Him!

  16. says

What a powerful fill-in-the-blank statement! The first half looks the enemy straight in the eye; the second half disarms him.

I may be in a place of uncertainty, but that is not who I am. I am confident in my strong and faithful God.

Thanks to you, Holley, I’m sitting up a little straighter!

  17. says

Stopping by from Jennifer Dukes. What a lovely post and what a lovely site! I’ll be back for more! Always a pleasure to meet other Christian bloggers. Blessings!

  18. Suzanne says

Holley, it’s been a long time…too long…since I’ve been on your blog. My hard drive crashed over the summer and sadly, could not be recovered. Just got a laptop thanks to some gracious friends. So, I’m starting from scratch.

I am almost 44. I have never been married. I am blessed to be a momma through adoption.
I struggle with Psalm 37, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
I am crazy about being a momma…felt called to adopt and would not change it for the world.
But…my heart still longs. I still long to share my life and my daughter with a godly man. Not sure if the answer to that prayer is “no” or “wait.”

Praying for focus and to loosen my grip.
So, even though I am in a place of longing, He has called me chosen. He is my enough.

    • Cindy says

Wow, Beth! I just read your blog, “Where Do You Come From.” It is great. So good to remember all the different things which help make up your life – both good and difficult. I was reminded of being in a church musical entitled, “Now Hear it Again.” I was to have been the Christian speaker, but ended up being the non-Christian speaker – I think. I am 57 years of age, and this was done when I was in the youth choir. :) What an experience. My parents took us to church when we were little, but I don’t remember it. I began going again when a friend from school invited me to her church. God is so very good. Thank you again for sharing that great blog with us! God bless you richly!

Holley, You are such an inspiration and a blessing to the body of Christ. I have now on my wall a copy of these beautiful words to remind me that what I am going through is not God’s hand of judgement but rather His purifying Hand.

I am a widow of just a few weeks,
but that’s not who I am
God has promised to be the husband to the husbandless! I am not alone ever!

  22. says

I love reading everyone’s truths in Christ. Thank you for this wisdom, Holley. I am going to use this exercise with my small group tonight.

I may be in a place of confusion but that is not who I am. I have full assurance in Christ.

  23. Cindy says

Holley, this is great. I, too, was so blessed to read, first of all your devotion, and then the comments of fellow readers. Praise God! Oh, to always remember who we are in Christ and let that override any thought/spoken words/feelings to the contrary!! God bless you.
