I have a confession: I’ve been sitting at a coffee shop wrestling with the words for this post all morning. I want to write a super-cheerful note about how we can all make this a super-stellar year. I want to use lots of exclamation points and talk about big goals.
But the reality is life has been trying to kick my tail the last few weeks. Some of it has been expected–like the annual round of colds, a busy travel schedule and the stress of the holidays. But some of it has caught me completely by surprise.
Maybe you’re starting off the new year not feeling quite as strong as you’d like either?
I’ve spent time with good friends and family who speak truth to my heart. I’ve spent time in a counselor’s office unraveling lies that threaten to tie me up inside. I’ve spent time on the couch watching lots of Netflix and reading mystery novels. I’ve spent time with my sweet Jesus.
I know I will be okay. But I’m learning it’s alright if that doesn’t happen right this very second. And I still have this wild, crazy, only-God-can-make it true hope for you and me both: I want 2016 to be an amazing year.
I wrote the book You’re Already Amazing almost five years ago. And if you had asked me then what the word “amazing” meant I would have given you a different answer than the one I would today. That’s not because what it means to me has changed but because I’ve come to understand it in a deeper way.
According to the dictionary “amazing” means to “cause wonder.” And, yes, I still believe that applies to who we are. As the Psalmist declared, “I praise You because I am wonderfully made.” But the kind of amazing I’m seeking right now has more to do with God’s work in my life.
I want to be amazed by His love. Amazed by His grace. Amazed by how He can give us strength deep down inside on the days when we want to quit it all and become a coffee barista in Australia {substitute your own fantasy escape here}. Amazed at how the best is yet to be.
What do you say, friends? Do you want to join me in this scandalous hope? We’ve been together in this space for awhile now. Long enough for me to know that we are fighters, survivors, overcomers. We are women who know how to whisper words of encouragement but also roar in a way that makes the ground shake. We are called to homes and workplaces and schools and churches and conversations. And I believe we are ready to be even more amazed.
If you agree, then let’s do this thing. And I’ve got some new tools to help along the way. First, you can sign up for the free LifeGrowth with Holley Gerth newsletter that will have encouragement, exclusives {starting with a beautiful printable!} and life coaching resources for you {yep, in case you missed it I’m a certified life coach}.
Also, watch for the You’re Already Amazing LifeGrowth Guide launching in early March. It’s an interactive workbook along with videos that will empower you {and/or a group} to embrace who you are and become all God created you to be in an even deeper way. If you’d like a head start, you can go ahead and order You’re Already Amazing the book now {read a free excerpt}.
I don’t know what the future will hold. But I do know this: Whatever it does we will not face it alone. We will have each other. And we will have a God who has more in store for us than we can even imagine. Let’s dare to make 2016 an amazing year.
XOXO
Holley Gerth
