{my graphics are free goodies for you}
A typical conversation between my sweet dad and me: “What are you going to do tonight, Holley?”
“I’m going to clean the kitchen and go to bed.”
“Well, goodnight. Be careful.”
Regardless of what I’m doing, my Dad’s last two words to me are usually “Be careful.”
I smile whenever he says it, and I appreciate his tender and protective heart. I’ve also realized my heavenly Father does not often speak those same words to me. Instead He says, “Deny yourself…Do not fear…Be courageous.”
If Christ is any example of how God treats His children (and of course He is), being careful doesn’t seem to enter into the equation much! God has good plans for us—but He also has dangerous adventures that may cost us our lives and most certainly will cost us ourselves.
There is a time and place for safety and caution. But there is also a time to battle giants, overcome obstacles, and take leaps of faith we never thought possible.
While God doesn’t promise us safety, He does promise us security.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-29
Because of that truth we can step out of our comfort zones and take risks for Him. That might mean reaching out to a hurting friend, beginning a new career, standing up for our beliefs, or laying down an old habit that gave us a false sense of security.
It’s still hard for me to be brave sometimes. But I’m slowly learning that each of us must listen to our heavenly Father’s voice. What we hear may surprise, challenge, and stretch us, but we can trust it always comes from a heart of love.
What brave step is God asking you to take?
XOXO
