God-sized dreams…and the lie that almost undid mine

Heart photo by CarbonNYC (flickr) There is a lie that has run through my veins for years, deep and dark. Like invisible, untraceable poison it slowly snatched away my strength.

I heard it as if it were true…

You can’t really trust your heart.

It’s the twin of the other lie hissed in the Garden. “Did God really say…?”

This one is, “Are you really who you say you are…who He says you are?”

The lie says…

You are really unworthy.

You are really unlovable.

You are really a disappointment.

And even if it seems that’s not true, you can’t ever be sure because you can’t trust your own heart.

It seems logical.

Even Scriptural.

After all, the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9).

But then I talk to Denise and I read the rest of the chapter. The answer is already there. “I, the Lord, search the heart.”Jeremiah 17:10

There is One who knows our hearts. And He promises to reveal all truth to us (John 16:13). God knows all about us, who we really are, and He says…

You are loved.

You are enough.

You are forgiven.

You are accepted.

And if there’s something we need to know about ourselves, He will gently show it to us without condemnation.

Anything else is of the enemy.

You can really trust your heart.

Because you can trust the One who dwells within it.
