God’s Purpose for Our Lives {Book Club – Session Five}

We can do all things through Jesus Christ!

There’s a secret weapon I like to use with life coaching clients. I’ve seen it encourage, equip and empower women in significant ways. I call it a LIFE Statement. LIFE stands for “Love Is Faith Expressed” and is based on Galatians 5:6, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” A LIFE statement serves three significant purposes:

First, a LIFE Statement is a filter for evaluating decisions and opportunities. While there will be exceptions, most of the time what we choose to do should fit with who we are and what we feel called to do.

Second, a LIFE Statement is intended to be an affirmation of what we’re already doing. On the days when our lives feel ordinary and we wonder if we should be doing something else, we can know, “Yes, I’m where I’m supposed to be and it matters.”

Most of all, a LIFE Statement keeps us on track with what Jesus says matters most: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matt. 22:37–39).

Today I want to write and share our LIFE Statements using the following process.

First, we start with the common foundation we all share of expressing our faith through love:

I am created and called to express my faith through love . . .

Then finish that statement with your unique way of doing so in the world. The words you use here will likely come from your strengths, skills and who you’re called to serve, which is why we’ve focused so much on them in the You’re Already Amazing LifeGrowth Guide.

. . . especially by (verb ending in “ing”) + (what) + (who) + (how)

Here’s my LIFE Statement:

I am created and called to express my faith through love, especially by bringing hope and encouragement (what) to the hearts of women (who) through words (how).

Another one might be:

I am created and called to express my faith through love, especially by meeting the practical needs (what) of my family, friends, and community (who) through service (how).

If you’d like more tools, resources and help discovering your strengths, skills and who you’re called to serve as well as writing your LIFE Statement you’ll find it all in the You’re Already Amazing LifeGrowth Guide. This is my favorite part of the whole book! I love hearing LIFE Statements and I’m excited for you to share yours!
