What Do Your Mistakes Mean? You Have the Guts and Courage to Keep Trying

No matter what you’ve done, how you’ve failed, where you’ve been—you can begin again.

I take my seat and eye the blank canvas in front of me with suspicion. I’m here for a guided painting party with friends and we laugh nervously as we consider the task before us. Then the woman next to me says, “The good news is you can paint over any canvas.”

Her words keep repeating in my mind and echoing in my heart. “You can paint over any canvas.” They help me see the reassurance offered in Scripture from a new perspective. First Peter 4:8 tells us, “Love covers a multitude of sins.” In other words, love can paint over any canvas.

Yes, even the choice we made that feels like it could never be forgiven.

Yes, even the secret that sometimes wakes us up in the middle of the night.

Yes, even the mistake that accuses us from the quiet, dark corner of our hearts.

The enemy of our souls would like to tell us, “You don’t get a second chance.” But the Savior says, “I died to give you as many chances as you need.”

Art isn’t about perfection. It’s about the courage to try. Life is too. Every day is a blank canvas. So let’s grab our brushes, dip deep into grace and begin…again.

What do your mistakes mean? You have the guts and courage to keep trying.

God, You offer us Your grace. You show us Your mercy. You encourage us to not give up but to simply try again. You turn our messes into something beautiful for You. Give us the courage to trust that we can always begin again. Amen.

Love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Pt. 4:8
