Have you ever turned a corner, inhaled, and suddenly you’re back in Grandma’s kitchen or the beach where you spent your vacation? Our sense of smell is the one most closely tied to our memories and moods. Because of the strong responses they evoke, scents can be a simple way to add a little more happy to our everyday lives.
Citrus scents are the most powerful mood boosters. Orange, lemon and grapefruit all work well. Mix them with vanilla and you get a calming effect too. Here are some of my favorite ways to get more scents into my day {I don’t get anything from mentioning these products, they’re just what I actually use.}…
Candles – Look for citrus scents from your favorite brand. I like to get mine at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods because the quality is better but the prices are lower.
Perfume – I recently started wearing Clinique Happy again. You can also make your own perfume from .
Air Freshener – I love Citrus Magic products.
Soaps & Sanitizers – Bath & Body Works Lemon. Yes, please.
Cleaning Products – Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena. Simply fresh.
Essential Oils – If you’re the creative type, you can use essential oilsto make your own citrus scented products. There are tons of “recipes” on the internet.
Have you found any other citrus scented items? I’m on the lookout for an antibacterial hand lotion at the moment.
What other smells boost your mood?
The scents you surround yourself with might seem like they don’t matter much. But it’s the little things that can add up to a big difference sometimes. And if we can make simple changes that help us be happier and healthier, it serves not only us but those we love too, right?
Stop and smell the roses…or the citrus. 🙂
XOXO
