This past year in humanity’s history has felt like a marathon. I’ve thought often of these words, “Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us” (Heb. 12:1).
We’ve faced difficulties and detours we couldn’t have imagined. But some days what gets to me even more than these is the critical voice in my mind saying, “You’re disqualified.” Maybe you’ve heard it too.
This voice usually comes when we’re about to do something hard or brave, when we’re daring to take a step forward or try something new. There are a thousand different versions.
You’re disqualified because…
You’re imperfect.
You’re too young.
You’re too old.
You aren’t educated enough.
You don’t have the right experience.
You made a mistake years ago that’s unforgivable.
The only thing all of these have in common is that they are lies designed to make us quit the race.
God has never chosen those most qualified. He turned David the shepherd into a king. His disciples includes tax collectors and fisherman. He sent Jesus to a manger, not a corner office.
So what’s the truth that will help us keep moving forward one brave step at a time? We are qualified because God has called us. He has invited us to be part of what He’s doing and where He’s going in this generation—to love, serve, and offer whatever we have.
You are qualified for God’s purpose for your life. I am qualified for His purpose for mine. What He’s asking from us, especially now, isn’t perfection—it’s perseverance.
So let’s take the next step.
Let’s refuse to quit.
Let’s run with endurance the race God has set before us.
Cheering You On,
Holley
