I had another post planned for today but I got the question above so many times I wanted us to have a little chat about it. So if you were asking, “What if I don’t know what my God-sized dream is?” then know you’re not alone–lots of your sisters were with you.
So let me lean in and gently whisper to your heart: Don’t worry, beautiful friend. You’ve got a God-sized dream too.
Because all God-sized dreams are really just this: a desire for more of what God has for you. And you want that, don’t you? Yep, I thought so.
Some of us will be mentioning specific ways we want to experience that in our lives, like a particular calling or project. But really at the heart of all of those things is the same ultimate goal…to make life an intimate adventure with God.
In many ways, God-sized dreaming is more about an attitude than an action. It’s living with an ongoing “yes” to whatever God asks of you.
It means choosing faith over fear.
It means moving forward instead of holding back.
It means believing God can accomplish His purposes for your life–no matter how hard things are right now.
Jesus said the two most important things in life are this: Love God, love people. That’s true of every God-sized dream. So if you’re not sure what words or goals to put to your dream yet, start there. Simply say, “My dream is to grow in my love for God and people in 2013.”
That’s your heart isn’t it? What you really want? After spending time with you here, I know it is.
As you go through the following weeks, you may get more details about what that means in your life. Or it might stay vague. Either one is okay. You might discover you have one dream that stands out or lots of different ideas. That’s okay too.
Where we’re going is more about the journey than the destination. Even those of us who think we know where God is leading us are probably going to be surprised where we end up {yes, I speak from experience on that one. ha!}.
A God-sized Dreamers’ Prayer
God, your thoughts are not my thoughts {Is. 55:8}.
What you have planned for me is beyond all I can ask or imagine {Eph. 3:19-20}.
Yet you have also promised to reveal it to me through your Spirit {1 Cor. 2:8-10}.
So I open my heart, mind, and life to more of you–to whatever you have for me. Where there is ongoing fear in my life, please replace it with faith. Where there is a desire to hold back, give me the strength to move forward. Where there is a desert, lead me into the Promised Land you have prepared for me.
I embrace that my part is to pray, plan, and most of all seek you. And yours is to get me where you want me to go {Prov. 16:9, Prov. 19:21}. Wherever that is, that’s where I want to be too. Because there’s no better place in this world or the next than with you {Ps. 84:10}.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth {especially my little corner of it} as it is in heaven {Matt. 6:10}.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
So will you take this journey with me, sister? Even if you don’t know exactly where it’s leading in your life?
I can promise you’ll be heading to somewhere good–because that’s who God is.
And he’s the very best dream of all.
p.s. You’re still welcome to link up a post with us too. Just write about how you’re not sure what your God-sized dream is specifically but you know you want more of him in your life this year. And thank you for all of you who linked up already! I’ve loved reading your words.
