What to Say When You Don’t Know What to Say

What to say when you don't know what to say

Our world is full of hard situations right now. Whether we’re trying to comfort someone who’s lost a loved one, help a friend deal with anxiety, or talk through important issues with those who are different than us, finding helpful words can be challenging.

So, being human, we get nervous and say whatever we think will make things better, only to find we’ve done the opposite. Oops.

The good news is, we don’t need a lot of words, just a few simple phrases that we can remember and use when we’re not sure what to say. I’m sharing 7 of my favorites with you today.

I love you
I’m for you
I hear you
I believe you
I support you
I’m listening
Tell me more

These phrases come from over two decades of writing greeting cards for DaySpring, along with my experiences as an author, counselor, and life coach. Adapt them however you’d like and use them in whatever ways work best for you and your people.

And, if you have another phrase to add, let me know in the comments below!
