I wandered the aisles of a local store, random thoughts running through my mind. Sometimes nothing I do seems right. Sometimes nothing I am seems right.
As I prayed silently for God to show me His love, I came to the jewelry case. Circling it slowly, a gorgeous white ring in the shape of a rose caught my eye. I caught my breath.
I wore a ring with the word HOPE on it for the last four years. Feeling I’d finally come into a new chapter of my story, I placed the ring back in my drawer.
I’d wondered…what should I wear next?
The rose ring drew my attention again. I thought of how the last few weeks God had been speaking to me about what comes after rain…flowers, new life, abundance. I asked the girl behind the counter if I could try it on.
It was the only one. And it was my size.
I got the ring.
In the parking lot, I held it up to the light. For the first time I noticed the metal band formed a small heart.
I grabbed a small tag I’d thrown into the bag. It read Made in Israel.
On the way home a few words of a verse–something about flowers and singing–kept running through my mind. I quickly hopped online and found the reference. Picking up my Bible, it opened to that exact chapter (seriously).
I could hardly believe what I read…
My lover spoke and said to me,
“Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me.”
See the winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come.”
Song of Solomon 2:10-12
My eyes (and heart) overflowed.
As most of you know, my first book is titled Rain on Me. I’ve walked through a storm for many years.
The last few weeks it seemed the sun had come out. I’d been praying and asking God over and over, “Is this from you? Can I move forward?”
Today I had the answer…the one my heart already knew.
Life’s showers bring flowers. Hurt turns to joy. It’s real.
And God is a divine Lover who will stop at nothing to win us…perhaps even sending us roses when we least expect them.
p.s. God doesn’t usually show me His love this way and I wondered about sharing this story. But I believe it’s really for each of us, for all of our hearts.
“Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me.”
Wherever we are today, He’s waiting with arms and heart open wide…
