When Your God-Sized Dream Isn’t What You Expected

God-sized Dream = A desire in your heart for more of what God has for you.

We’re opening the door to God-sized dreams in 2013. So every week we get together to encourage each other {because don’t we all need it? yes, ma’am.}. This week Kendra Tillman is here to share about God-sized dreams with you…

I still remember the day my closest friend called crying because her toddler daughter had another ear infection. She wasn’t crying because of the ear infection. She knew her ear would heal and her daughter would be fine. She cried because she had to leave work, again. She felt that her co-workers were starting to think she couldn’t manage the responsibilities of being a mom and a career woman. As we sat on the phone together and I shared with her that God’s grace was on her to do both, I made a vow to never question any mother’s choice to work inside or outside the home. Generally speaking, we fiercely love our children, our spouses, our families and every decision we make in life somehow comes back to how we are best serving them.

My God-sized dream has risen out of a belief that women shouldn’t have to choose between raising their families and contributing a full time income to their household. I want to use any influence, resources or expertise that I have to help them do both. I’m in the business of equipment and encouragement. I equip women with the expertise, professional knowledge, they need to build a sustainable home based business and I encourage them through God’s Word and the success stories of other women. Providing inspiration, hope, encouragement to other women, especially mothers, is my absolute passion.

I had a dream to be on the radio. I thought it would be a local station. However, I’ve found my voice online among women of faith who are running a business while raising a family. Through the use of technology I’m able to provide a platform for women to share their expertise, wisdom and encouragement on my weekly podcast/radio show, WAHM Success Radio (http://thesavvywahm.com/wahm-success-radio-recent-episodes/). This podcast is one of my God-sized dreams realized.

This process of hosting a radio show and growing a business has personally transformed me more than I expected.  I sense God molding me and shaping my character, my attitudes and my thought life. I rarely feel comfortable. I just wanted a radio show, but God wanted someone who would be fit for His use. He desires to perfect me. He is the initiater and perfecter of my faith. I’ve stopped fighting the process (sometimes). He’s developing me. I haven’t always appreciated His methods of transformation, but it’s exciting to see who I’m becoming.

I have a dream of one day being a best-selling author whose gift takes her to people and places she couldn’t imagine. I dream of being an advocate for mom entrepreneurs, a voice of hope and encouragement that our families don’t have to (and shouldn’t) suffer at the expense of the dreams God has given us.  It’s my dream that as we embrace the dreams God has given us our families, our neighborhoods, our country, this world will be better for it.
