I shared last week how I led a retreat and felt scared silly. Once I got past that, I discovered that leading is one of the best ways of learning. Those women taught me so much. And my dear friend, Kim, who came with me spoke words I’m never going to forget.
I’d coaxed her on stage to share a bit about how she lives with intention and purpose. She shared about saying no to what many would consider a fabulous opportunity. She said, “I’ve learned that if I say ‘yes’ to something that isn’t really what God has for me then I’m actually taking someone else’s spot.”
Isn’t that freeing?
We tend to think we have to do it all but in reality we’re only to do what God asks, to use our strengths and skills in the unique way he intends us to while we’re on this earth. When we stay focused and purposefully say “no” at times then we actually help others do what God has called them to as well.
You don’t have to meet every need.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
So let’s breathe a big sigh of relief together and then say a little woo-hoo because we only have to do what God has for us! And we can cheer on our sisters as they do the same.
