When I stood under the tall trees last week, I also thought of a tall cross and the one who hung on it.
The words He taught His disciples to pray ran through my mind, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
He is our bread of life. (John 6:35)
He is the Word. (John 1:1)
My hungry heart whispered, “Give us this day our daily Word.”
I thought of manna, that strange food God provided for His people in the desert.
I remembered this post by my friend Bonnie and how she told us that manna means, “What is it?”
This question came first from the lips of the Israelites as they wondered about God’s provision. I wonder if perhaps it’s also a reflection of His heart. It seems He says to us, “What is it, child? What is it you need most today?”
He is the I AM. Ever present, everything we need.
Each of us could fill that line in the Lord’s prayer a different way…
Give us this day our daily Peace (He’s the “Prince of Peace” – Isaiah 9:6).
Give us this day our daily Hope (He’s the “God of all hope” – Romans 15:13)
Give us this day our daily Comfort (He’s the “Father of compassion” – 2 Cor. 1:3)
On the cross, arms stretched wide, He offered all of Himself…nothing held back.
He still does.
What is it you need most from Him today?
Give us this day our daily…
