OUT of INsecurity 18: From my bookshelf…(part one)

I took a look in my little personal library and found eight books that have helped me with insecurity so I wanted to share them with you. Here are the first four…

He Loves MeWe probe through our circumstances trying to figure out exactly how God feels about us….

Something in the Bible inspired me today. He loves me!

My child is seriously ill. He loves me not!

Only in the last twelve years have I discovered that my methods of discerning God’s love were as flawed as pulling petals from a daisy. I haven’t been the same since.

– Wayne Jacobsen, He Loves Me!

The Ragamuffin Gospel And Grace calls out: You are not just a disillusioned old man who may die soon, a middle-aged woman stuck in a job and desperately wanting to get out, a young person feeling the fire in the belly begin to grow cold.

You may be insecure, inadequate, mistaken or potbellied. Death, panic, depression, and disillusionment may be near you. But you are not just that.

You are accepted. Never confuse your perception of yourself with the mystery that you really are accepted.

– Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel

Abba's Child God calls us to stop hiding and come openly to Him. God is the father who ran to His prodigal son when he came limping home. God weeps over us when shame and self-hatred immobilize us.

Yet as soon as we lose our nerve about ourselves we take cover. Adam and Eve hid, and we all, in one way or another, have used them as role models. Why?

Because we do not like what we see…But God loves who we really are–whether we like it or not.

– Brennan Manning, Abba’s Child

God-Confidence Maybe some of you feel like you have fallen. You want to finish the race God has set before you but the pain is too much. No matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to get back on your feet.

Maybe you’re afraid you heavenly Father is disappointed in you, that he is not pleased….Do you know that God is on your side?

God is for you. He wants you to finish the race and he will do everything he can to get you across that finish line. Even if it means carrying you across.

– Donna Partow, Walking in Total God-Confidence
